The central element of this picture is, undoubtedly, the hat. This whimsical bifurcated headwear conquers all the attention from the very first glimpse at the drawing. The elaborate detail of the hat texture, reminiscent of either hair braids or chain armor, advantageosly contrasts the "unfinished" bottom of the lady's torso. The free strokes of the latter also lend some unrestrained dynamics to the composition as a whole.
The lady on the picture is more than just a static carrier of the headdress. It might seem at first that she is there for mere presentation of the hat, but a more careful look reveals some personality behind that geisha-like make-up. And if you keep looking longer you will feel that at any time she might suddenly wave with her eyelashes and look up at you. Aren't you wondering what color her eyes are?
